In the previous post, I shared about the 3 most costly mistakes marketers are making on their landing pages. In this post, I’m going to share with you the answers to the 5 most FAQs when creating your first landing page. I hope they will provide you some insight:
Q) What’s the formula for creating high-converting landing pages?
A: The formula for an action-oriented landing page is really as simple as this – “Here’s what I’m offering, here are the benefits you are getting, here’s what you should do now.”
You don’t have to overdo your page and make it irritating for others. What you want is to just make your offer so precise and so easily understandable that the right prospects know that they want it, and the wrong prospects understand that they don’t need it.
Q) How long should your landing page be?
A: In the previous post, I mentioned that your page needs to be like a woman’s skirt, it needs to be brief enough to catch people’s attention and offer enough information for people to take the action you want (i.e. opt-in to your free offer or subscribe to your list).
You certainly don’t want to have 4 or 5 different things that people could do on your page. Remember it is not so much about the ‘landing’, it is about offering people the information that they need so they can make an informed decision. Whether that decision is “yes” or “no”, they need to be able to decide quickly.
Q) Does your landing page design really matter?
A: As long as the design isn’t distracting and aggravating to people, your page should be good to go. Above all, it needs to be skimmable. You know, don’t make it a dense block of dark text. This is why we are seeing a lot of the modern minimalist designs these days.
Make sure the key elements are highlighted like headline, sub-headline, bullets, images, and arrow pointing to the call-to-action button so people know why they’d take the action.
Q) What are the biggest reasons your landing page isn’t converting?
A: Sadly, one of the biggest reasons is people don’t know, like, and trust you. It could come from not having enough supporting proof. Here is where you can use proof or testimonials to show that your offer does what it says, that you’re a genuine person, etc. all that stuff that overcome the trust barriers.
Another reason is people are not interested in your offer. It could mean that you haven’t explained the benefits clearly enough or your offer does something that they don’t want.
Q) What are the available platforms to create high-converting landing pages?
While there are many great platforms out there, the ones that I’m aware of right now are: LeadPages, Megaphone, OptimizePress, and Unbounce. Personally, I’m using the OptimizePress 3.0 platform to publish all my landing pages and happy with it so far.
